This building combines the studio of a photographer with his living quarters. Located in the countryside, yet not far from the city, the building unites simple shapes, which are typical for urban environments, with materials that are traditionally used for barns.
The studio occupies the North side of the building, with access at the street level.
The living quarters occupy the remaining part of the building. A two floor interior garden opens to the South. This is the focus point of the living area and all activities gravitate around it. The upper floor contains bedrooms with patio doors towards the interior garden. The street facade has minimum openings and serves as a screen for the house. On the opposite side, large panoramic windows connect the living room with the backyard. The internal layout, with kitchen on the street end and living room in the back reflects the transition from intense activity towards rest and relaxation.
The board-and-batten siding is used as exterior cladding. The battens extended in front of the windows to filter direct sunlight and provide privacy. Their shape allows for variations on the facades following their "upward" or "downward" installation.
