The conversion of an existing office building into cozy apartments located in a downtown area close to public transportation, bicycle paths, and a university represents an exciting and challenging architectural project. By repurposing the existing building, this project provides a sustainable and cost-effective solution to urban housing, while also promoting a walkable, bikeable, and transit-friendly urban environment.
By recuperating a small existing parking lot, the project features also an extension that creates additional living spaces. The extension is carefully planned to blend in with the scale and character of the existing buildings. The use of similar materials, colors, and proportions ensures that the new addition does not disrupt the existing street fabric. The building's height and setback are also carefully considered to maintain the street's rhythm and ensure that the extension does not overshadow the surrounding buildings.
The design of the extension is also informed by the need to provide functional and comfortable living spaces. The new apartments are designed to maximize natural light and ventilation while ensuring privacy and security.
